About the Savannah Ecosystem
The Savannah Arid and Semi-Arid Ecosystem (SASAE) is Kenya's largest ecosystem, covering approximately 463,933 km² across 15 counties. This vast expanse represents the iconic African savannah landscape, characterized by open grasslands, scattered acacia trees, and seasonal water sources that support some of the world's most spectacular wildlife populations. The ecosystem hosts an incredible diversity of wildlife, including large populations of elephants, giraffes, zebras, and the full complement of Africa's apex predators. The SASAE encompasses Kenya's most famous protected areas such as Tsavo, Amboseli, and Samburu, alongside over 100 community conservancies vital for conservation.
